On sundown of September 29th in the year 2019, the Hebrew Calendar ushered in the new decade of 5780. According to the Hebrew Calendar, we are in the decade of “Peh” which is symbolic of the mouth. “Peh” by extension means word, expression, speech, breath and vocalization. In the order of the Hebrew alphabet, “Peh” follows the letter “Ayin” which is symbolic of the eyes and by extension, awareness. So far, it seems as if we are in a decade where our eyes will give us insight while our mouths will give us a means of expressing it. If we are therefore, not in alignment with God, we will be blind to God’s revelations and our mouths will be busy declaring that which is fruitless and spiritually contaminating.
Interestingly, as the decade has been progressing, we have been witnesses to a series of events highlighting our eyes and mouths. In May 2020, the entire world witnessed the “I can’t breathe” incident of George Floyd along with the Black Lives Matter Movement. Further to this, in 2020, the world spiralled out of control in battle against the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Consequently, we have all fallen victim to wearing masks as part of our day to day apparel and the washing of hands is no longer optional but mandatory for our entrance into any establishment.
Time certainly feels as if it is moving faster as we face distractions in every direction of our day. We are overwhelmed by the lockdowns on our freedoms, and we often become busy in sightless chattering. At a time where social media has made our opinions liberated, people are busy speaking and declaring while cherry-picking the Word of God. Instead, we should be praying and listening because it is God’s will that must be done. Everyone feels obliged to give their opinions on topics ranging from vaccines to social injustices but without insight into the nature and plans of God, we will never understand His revelation on earth of spiritual things.
God has been steadfast in getting His kingdom’s soldiers attention. All who are called to His kingdom should be watchful and alert. At a time where we are required to mask up our mouths in order to avoid the possibility of spreading a virus, we are also suppose to be masked up against any possibility of being contaminated by sin. Since we are all carriers of sin, we should also take action not to spread it. While we remember to wash and sanitize our hands everywhere that we go, may we also be mindful of the daily renewing and cleansing required of our minds and hearts. God is handpicking His chosen generation and for some of us, this season may be our last chance. We are in a season of opportunity to meet God in His secret place where we can truly repent and be restored unto Him. For many, the lockdowns have taken away their frivolous excuses and God is waiting on their obedience instead of their complaining.
In this season of transition and shifting, we are required to live in alignment with God’s Word and declare it with our mouths. We are to speak into existence all that God wants for our lives, families, businesses and ministries. As the dynamics of the world shifts further into dependence on the intelligence and manipulations of man, we as God’s children are to shift deeper into our dependence on God. If we seek God, we will see His new place of provision and protection unfolding in our lives. Knowing our identity in Christ is golden because no matter how far away from God, the world turns, we know that we are set apart.
Many do not know the purpose for which they were created. Their identity is only hinged on self. We were created to reflect God and glorify Him yet we keep on reflecting our own sinfulness. My challenge to you today is to search for the true and living God for he says “Seek me and you shall live”. Your hope will never be in vain if it is in the Lord, for those who seek Him will lack no good thing.
SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”
