I believe we were all born with a God-given purpose and like everything else under the sun, our purpose must be birthed and cultivated within the constraints of our individual time allotments here on Earth. Time as we know it is continuous, however, there is no living equation to calculate the unknown factor of our predetermined lifespans. Consequently, our destinies are riddled with a huge measure of uncertainty, and yet still, we live as if we are certain that we are the architects of our own existence.
We declare that the life God has graciously granted us is short and we go on to place our self-interests on a pedestal above Him. Further to this, we are brazen enough to ask God to bless what we perceive as blessings and to protect us when we willfully embrace and flirt with sin. The reason many of us are so comfortable playing hide and seek with God is that we do not hold an accurate belief of who God is. A.W. Tozer once wrote that “the essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. Wrong ideas about God are not only the fountain from which the polluted waters of idolatry flow; they are themselves idolatrous. The idolater simply imagines things about God and acts as if they were true.”
Idolatry is not only about the worship of physical idols, but also about the false beliefs you put above God and deem as truth. The time has come for us to sound off our spiritual alarms and wake up to fulfilling all that God has called us to do. God will not be flattered by our manipulations, neither will He always show forth His mercy on our impure motivations. He is both the Lion and the Lamb and what He favours in His people are broken and contrite hearts. We need to rise above the rut and routine of our personal half-hearted religions and ACTIVELY SEEK TO KNOW GOD not for what He can do but for who He is. In order to do this, we must purify and upraise our concept of God and seek to have a personal encounter with Him. We must spend our days and nights in communion and prayer in order to cultivate a perpetual spiritual fervour that no sin can stand against.
Our time on earth begins and ends on God’s accord and it is by His will that we are chosen out of many to be His few. We can no longer get away with knowing about God, WE MUST GET TO KNOW HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH. The God we serve exists outside of the boundaries of time and yet for us to know Him, we must give time to Him. This is the opportunity of time – The chance we have been given to get to know Him. This is our
ultimate duty as believers amidst the many distractions competing for our time and interest in the world.
To know God is an honour and privilege and as such, it is not so much that our time is precious, it is the realization that God’s gift of salvation and sonship is!
Scriptures:
John 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Romans 13:11
“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
